Alien Peach

Error is a natural part of the creative process, but, we’ve all been there!
Sometimes, I add too many elements that clutter the illustration. However, it’s always possible to stop and review my steps later, and I completely understand the frustration of not getting the desired result in my drawings.

Here’s the before and after review. The difference in colour usage is noticeable, and I’ve reduced the number of brush strokes in the background.

When I was trying to draw a scene with a giant amphibian god surrounded by mountains, I used a colour palette from pantone.com, specifically the new Pantone 2024 (Peach Fuzz).

During the process, I had to accept that I didn’t know everything. I constantly looked for references, such as photographs or drawings by other artists. I took suggestions, stopped, laughed, drank water, and changed the music. All of these things helped me.

One of my goals was to use more shadows in my drawing to stop being “afraid of the dark”. I find that in order to begin to master a subject, I need to use something that makes me laugh (alien god) along with a subject that is out of my comfort zone (aquatic-amphibian). This way I can learn and practice other things like: character design, silhouette, practice and play with brushes in Photoshop that I don’t normally use.

Good or bad, I feel that I have achieved my goal, and even if the technique can still be improved, at least I have a piece of work that is completely out of what I have been drawing lately.

I am constantly learning, and besides, it’s fun.

Finn & Gato – Happy new year 2024

On this ocassion, Finn & Gato present an encounter between good and evil in space, with Krypto and Batman’s chair appearing by mistake after being transferred via a portal. To begin the new year, a bizarre but epic battle šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

I spent around five hours drawing this picture, and you can view the entire process on my twitch channel, where you can also see the sources of my inspiration and influences for this tiny card. I’ll confess that it can be challenging at times to put all the crazy things that come up during streaming, but I enjoy it since it keeps me current with ideas while having silly chats. That’s how the Batman chair and Krypto idea came up.

Finn – Teemo and Gato – Vex

Many of the things I draw are related to what I’m interested in right now, which is League of Legends, and the painting itself shows how I perceive the game in my own eyes: bright, colorful, entertaining, and something you can do solo or with others.

In terms of the drawing, I was inspired by Pinterest and images from the League of Legends Story game, Bandle Tale. My goal was to use a purple-bluish color palette with some yellows to represent the game’s arena while still incorporating lighting, shadows, and midtones, and to create a composition that allowed the characters to be the dominant focus of the image. I was aiming for a peaceful conflict between light (Finn-Teemo) and dark (Gato-Vex) because none of my characters have ever damaged each other as they are like brothers, yet you can still sense their rivalry.

I still need to work on adding good lighting to the environment and not be afraid to add darker tones. And I’m still dealing with the perspective of things.

In my next post, I’ll show you what I’m doing to overcome those personal challenges, or you can watch me draw live on Twitch next week on Monday at 7:00 p.m. (MX time), where I’m currently starting to draw less elements to focus more on the details, lightings and continuing to work with a specific color palette using the new pantone of 2024 and an alien as pretext. šŸ˜

Meet Finn

Although it’s been a while since I last posted, you can still view my most recent work on my TikTok or Instagram accounts. I would be uploading more frequentlyā€”at least once a weekā€” creating more adventures and producing fresh drawings in realistic or alternative styles. With their recent redesign, I already have a ton of drawings of Finn and Gato with humorous stories from League of Legends, Spider-Man, and other unique works that are either static or animated with my voice.

Additionally, you can see me draw live every Monday and Wednesday nights (7 pm MX time) if you follow me on Twitch. You can even collaborate with me by adding proposals to my drawings. On Fridays, we could play video games together.

Join and enjoy my stories and if you have any commisions, please send me a message or write to: contact@elisa-ayala.com

Gato – Toad

Little by little I’ll start to play more around my own characters: Finn & Gato and for the time being, I just want to have fun doing some crossovers with some of Mario Bros characters, while reviewing the new designs and getting familiar with the forms I just set up.

BTW you can visit my twitch and watch how I drew him LIVE www.twitch.tv/videos/1782014469 (sorry it’s in spanish).

CAT – redesign

In recent weeks I’ve been focusing on promoting my characters and other works on social media and one of my objectives is to use all the knowledge I acquired in recent years to make a redesign of Finn and his cat so I can work on further adaptations…

Here’s what I got until now: With a trustworthy personality, Cat is an intelligent character, sometimes stubborn and clever as any other cat. His eyes are bigger as well as his ears and his body is small in comparison to his head and yet fluffy to get a hug from him. He might look innocent, but he’s always ready to protect or play with Finn*.

That Place

Some weeks ago, I worked on an image that could represent a challenge for me. With that on mind, I focused myself on create a full cyberpunk environment using more than 20 photographs that I find on the internet. So, between buildings, textures, lights, an auto, a main character and some illustrated parts, I worked around the idea of a “better world”or “being better”just by enhancing some body parts.

This took me a whole week, using only PS, working only on my free time or after a meeting in my work just to prepare for the next one. I also downloaded a font just to add some signs or phrases without using an specific language.

Dragon Ekko

Last week I was thinking on my chihuahua called Ekko, and just for fun, I explored a bit his anatomy while doing a simple character/creature design. I admit I didn’t spend that much time as I would liked to, but I tried to work with the wings and give a back story using his personality as basis.

As character, he is a poison dragon and lives in the forest. He likes fruits and salty things. Sometimes he eats meat by hunting small animals such as birds and insects. Normally you don’t have to worry about his poison if he likes you, you might feel a little numb but nothing to worry about. He loves to play and explore things, which might get him into trouble, but as the intelligent creature he is, he will probably get away with his jokes… He has a bad/good personality which can be seen in his magic wings and horns.

Be aware of his teeth… sometimes those are very hurtful.

Here you can see the sketch and original references:

I do admit it took me a while to define the texture of the dog… to make it look like a portrait, but at the same time with this cartoonish style. Anyway, it was a good exercise, even if I think I’m not that at good drawing animals hahaha

Happy New Year 2023

This new year has come with many things in my life such as new pets, a whole new life living on my own with my partner and a new career, but most importantly, a sense of self belonging which I’ll try to reinforce during this new year.

This drawing using Finn and his cat was a first exploration changing the character’s design and color techniques, I’ll try to play more using my current knowledge, so you can expect more adventures with those two.
